Fredenbaum Pluriversen

Directly behind the Theater im Depot is the Fredenbaumpark, which for around 40 years from 1884 was the most important open-air venue for colonial exhibitions and ethnographic shows in Dortmund. In the Decolonial Tuesday project and event series, we have been working with artists, activists and interested citizens on and in various formats on the social present and possible futures of the park since autumn 2024.

In the last week of June, we are now concluding the 2024/25 season with a small festival, starting on Tuesday with a film screening by Richard Opoku-Agyemang, followed by two days of internal workshops of our Decolonial Tuesday working groups with the historian and cultural worker Fidel Amoussou-Moderan and in cooperation with Decolonize Dortmund Project. If you are interested in this discussion, follow us on Instagram (#decolonial_dienstag) or contact us at soeren.meffert@theaterimdepot.de - then we will inform you about the further activities of the working groups after the summer break.

On Saturday, we will conclude the week with a dance workshop and a picnic in Fredenbaum Park with a DJ set.

„How long does it gonna take?“ - Screening

An interview film by Richard Opoku-Agyemang that questions the role of museums in post-colonialism. It deals with the necessity of spaces for black people, the handling of looted art and critically questions the self-reflection of exhibition venues.

Get together

The festival ends with an open, performative picnic setting: as an invitation to meet, to think further and to hang out together during a musical evening in the park. The DJ set is intended as a collective break - an aesthetic, danceable and solidary form of listening and visualizing. After the workshop we will go directly to the Fredenbaumpark: for all those who want to join us later: we will post the exact location of the picnic on Saturday, June 28th in the depot or announce it via our social media channels / homepage. We look forward to seeing you there!
