Pangea in Latent Space and the Tectonics of Otherness
PANGEA IA - María Luisa Angulo & Marlon Barrios Solano - Residencyprogramm Decolonizing the Digital
Pangea AI in the latent space is a project by the Pangea IA Collective, founded by María Luisa Angulo (France/El Salvador) and Marlon Barrios Solano (USA/Venezuela).
From a decolonial perspective rooted in our experience as migrant beings, our work weaves together art, technology, and critical theory as interdependent territories of creation and research, with particular attention to the body, movement, and the performing arts.
On our horizon, contemporary technologies—and particularly AI—far from being neutral tools, are for us a latent space, a territory of multiple possibilities where the meaning of the future is contested. Our proposal seeks to reconfigure that space through a situated, critical, and poetic sensibility.
As Pangea, we conceive artistic creation as an act of epistemic resistance against dominant narratives that promote homogeneity, historical linearity, and the technocratic ideal of progress. In opposition to these logics, we also commit to a horizontal, situated, and multilingual practice that disrupts hierarchical structures and patriarchal inertia, which automatically and almost imperceptibly infiltrate collaborative processes and condition forms of visibility, agency, and legitimacy.
