Turbulence

Today, machines have not only learned to speak. They have adapted to our bodies and slipped under our skin. Driven by needs, instincts, desires, and not least by commercial and political interests, they are changing our bodies, our minds, and our relationships. At the same time, the computing power of digital technologies has greatly accelerated our scientific understanding of the world.

Turbulence is a meditation on this tension. It reflects on the surprisingly productive yet unsettling exchange between science and entertainment in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

We are a transdisciplinary team, most of whom have already worked together as part of Touching Clouds. We work at the intersections between art, science, technology and spirituality.

Norbert Pape is a transdisciplinary artist working across the fields of dance, choreography and mathematics based in Berlin. His work addresses the co-dependency of senses, abstractions and technologies in sense-making, and in particular in making space.

Simon Speiser is a German-Ecuadorian artist who merges nature and technology through various media. Exploring themes of origins and the interplay between human and technological worlds, virtual reality and ancestral folklore, sci-fi and non-western conceptions of technology, and using storytelling as a tool in the fight against dystopian thinking, Speiser creates immersive, sensory experiences that highlight the resilience and adaptability of pre-colonial cultures.
