Nordstadt Community Curating 2026

Since the beginning of June, young people, their mothers and other residents of Dortmund’s Nordstadt district have been exploring the region’s cultural landscape together. They are visiting theatres, festivals, artists and cultural institutions, conducting interviews and discussing what kinds of art, stories and cultural formats can reach people in Nordstadt. The group is led and supported by Ayşe Kalmaz, an author, director and process curator.

The neighbourhood project has now reached stage two: twelve young women from the networks of the "Stadtteilschule Dortmund" are currently working on becoming curators themselves. They are taking part in workshops with, amongst others, the performance group Artes Mobiles and the choreographer Willie Stark. They are developing stories from Nordstadt into a theatre soap opera and presenting their first performative sketches and ideas for a future programme in the theatre auditorium. On stage, they receive professional support from the Stark Company (Cologne): young, urban, authentic.
