Nordstadt Community Curating 2026

First Presenation of Research Findings

Since the beginning of June, young people, their mothers and other residents of Dortmund’s Nordstadt district have been exploring the region’s cultural landscape together. They are visiting theatres, festivals, artists and cultural institutions, conducting interviews and discussing what kinds of art, stories and cultural formats can reach people in the Nordstadt.

On 11 July, the research group will present the findings of their research to date for the first time. They will share observations, interviews, documentation and insights from their encounters over the past few weeks. In addition, the group will discuss initial ideas about which artists, themes and formats they would like to see at the Theater im Depot in future.

Earlier in the day, as part of ‘Nordstadt Together’ and through the ‘Mokka together’ initiative, the group will gather further views, wishes and perspectives from residents. These will be incorporated directly into the evening event.

The presentation is explicitly not intended as a conclusion, but rather as a public interim report on an ongoing research and curatorial process. A moderated audience discussion invites visitors to contribute their own experiences, wishes and ideas, thereby becoming part of the further development themselves.

The event is explicitly aimed at people with no prior knowledge of the cultural sector.

Afterwards, we invite everyone to join the team at the Theater im Depot to celebrate the end of the season.
