Programme series at the Theater im Depot
We regularly present different artistic positions in thematic series. In addition to presenting aesthetic positions on a complex of topics, we supplement such series with workshops and discourse formats, thus opening up different approaches to thematic complexes.
Theatre of the Living
Starting in autumn 2024, we will be focusing on recurring themes at the Theater im Depot, exploring the human organism as part of complex ecospheres, as well as their deformation, extraction and – from a futuristic to utopian perspective – their expansion through novel artificial life forms.

Contemporary landscapes of anger
Resentment is a feeling based on a perceived injury. (Uffa Jensen)
The current rumblings of an impending ‘winter of discontent’ are reminiscent of the term ‘Wutbürger’ (angry citizen), which was coined twelve years ago by journalist Dirk Kurbjuweit in his Spiegel article of the same name and was immediately voted word of the year in Germany due to its rapid rise in both journalistic and academic circles. This term pathologised the concerns of those demonstrating in Stuttgart at the time and, with its polemical tone, overshadowed any possible examination of the emotional impulse to demonstrate with this moral and political assessment. For what does it mean when a person is obsessed by an emotion? That they can no longer be taken seriously?
○Context
○artscenico - Die Erregten. Bilder und Worte der Empörung
○Polar Publik - SING ANOTHER SONG! – PROTEST!
In the context of the two projects presented, we want to explore how to escape the furore of emotion without pathologising it; how to find a way back to laughter without laughing at each other; and how doubt can replace certainty. After this first block of discussions on this range of topics, a second will follow in late spring 2023, in which we will present two feminist positions on this issue. You are cordially invited to join us on this journey.
Tales from Afropa
In the series Explorations #1 – Tales from Afropa, we will present three artistic positions from different sub-Saharan African countries in October 2022, focusing on the complex networks of relationships between Africa and Europe in individual (fictional) stories, as well as examining the often painful relationship between the two continents from an intellectual-historical perspective.

○Dieudonné Niangouna - De ce côté
○Martin Ambara - Sundeita Keita and the Manden Charta
The stories presented here in a series establish a common narrative and historical space between African and European contexts that connects us and whose conditions of existence and forms we must continually reflect on and develop together in order to find the necessary answers to the question of how we can move away from Western discursive dominance in an increasingly multipolar world and encounter each other differently — for example, by listening to each other in new ways — and listening to the stories from Afropa.
